Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me"
Sept. 28, 2015 Alma 32:26-33...I challenge you all to read that!
Lili was baptized on Saturday with her little sister Juli! That was probably one of the most spiritual experiences I have ever had. They both had the cheesiest grins the whole time and it was so cool to see. When we first met Lili she was pretty much, I guess you could say, Atheist. But we have been able to see the happiness and the blessings that come from living the gospel in another person. As she acted upon faith we were able to see the story that is told in Alma 32:26-33. And I challenge you all to read that.
Other than that this was pretty uneventful haha. We don't have any investigators anymore so we have just been contacting and stopping by members to get referrals. It was really hot though. So we stopped an Ice cream truck and got some sweets. The person in the picture is a recent convert named Robert. He is pretty cool.
I can't believe that my second transfer is almost over. And that I have been out for 73 days?? Time flies by when you are having fun I guess. Like really this is the best thing I have ever done. It is so much fun every day. We play this game when we are walking around. It is called rock soccer. You try to kick rocks between each others legs while we are walking. And who ever scores the most before we get back in the car wins haha. So that is always entertaining. And just talking to people and hearing their experiences is always pretty cool as well. There are a lot of weird people.
Well I have to head out now. Talk to you next week.

September 21, 2015 Sisters scheduled to be baptized!! So exciting!!
Hola familia y amigos!
I have been trying to remember some of my Spanish this week. There are a ton of Mexicans that live here that don't speak a lick of english, so I have learned about 5 phrases to find out if they are interested and where they live to send the missionaries. It is still a struggle sometimes, but that has been fun.
Our investigator Lili passed her interview and is getting baptized this Saturday by one of our recent converts. It is amazing to see how far she has come and the blessings that have come from her decision. She is getting baptized with her sister Juli who is 13 years old. How special would that be to be baptized on the same day as your sibling. Pretty darn special I'll tell ya.
Our other investigators Gilberto, Jonathan, and Alian are all doing pretty good as well. Alian and Jonathan have dates for the 3rd of October but that will hold only as long as they keep coming to church. They have told us the difference it makes in their week when they do come to church. Which is something that I wish I would have taken more seriously before I came out on my mission. Church is so, so important when it comes to learning and the growth of your testimony. Our Father in Heaven has set apart that day for us to worship him. And in return he has promised us so many blessings that we as human beings can't even comprehend. So I encourage everyone to go to church with the intent to learn. And you will be able to feel the spirit so much more and you will be able to put those things that you do learn into your trials throughout the week.
Tuesday was an awesome day! We got rain! And not just a little drizzle. It poured and poured and poured! So awesome! We were out walking around when it started and within 10 minutes there was so much water, when cars would drive by they would splash huge rooster tails on us. But we were just laughing and having fun. Unfortunately everyone disappeared into their homes.
Sorry I don't send long emails. I don't have a lot of time to be on the computers and I just don't like typing very much. So yeah. But I do have to go now. I will talk to you all next week!

Sept. 14, 2015 Elder Miles is in the right place!! "I love the heat! It feels so good!!"...
Again .. Go Cougars! Haha... a member showed me the highlights to the game. Pretty sketchy at some points but they pulled it off. The pick 6 at the end was awesome.
This week was just another normal week. Nothing too exciting. None of our investigators went to church. And we didn't have our baptism yesterday. All of our investigators except for one are pretty unreliable. So Elder Wight and I get frustrated sometimes. We have canceled Gilberto for baptism until he shows us some motivation. And then there is a kid named Jonathan that is hard to read what is going on inside his head. He always has this blank stare and you have no idea what he is thinking. And when he does comment it's way off. So he is pretty difficult. But we have Lili that is way solid. We have had to move her date a couple times because of interview questions, but she has been trying her hardest to make those changes in her life. It is awesome that she see's the blessings that she is receiving from those changes, and that she is recognizing the promptings from the spirit. So that is pretty cool.
But yeah this week nothing really happened. A lot of our appointments fell through so we spent most of the times contacting. Plus it was pretty hot this week. On Tuesday it was 93 degrees at 10:30 in the morning. With 78% humidity. So we were sweating quite a bit. But I love the heat it feels so good. Elder Wight likes the cold so when we get back in the car he turns on the A/C then I get freezing. So I dont like that we have a car. But that is about it for this week. Sorry not much happened but hopefully this next week will be better! Cant wait to see!! Talk to you later.

Elder Miles attached this with his last email....so grateful he finds solace & comfort in beautiful poetry. Sept 8, 2015
THE MASTERS TOUCH
Discouraged and alone, we're not easily consoled; The school of life gets difficult, just as we were told.
Doubt shrinks us at the threshold of the darkened way; Despair creeps in upon us and is had to keep at bay.
Light now dims as the shadows grow in length; Heaviness engulfs us; we stop to pray for strength.
It seems we're going nowhere; life's a dead-end street; Relief is what we plead for when it all feels like defeat!
The fun has disappeared, dropping out is on our mind; The test has overwhelmed us, the answers hard to find.
In these trying moments, we must stop and be so still, So we can feel His promptings and know that they are real.
Only then can we be ready to sense the Master's touch, To know He's always there and that He loves us very much!
He knows just how we feel - He's been this way before; He's also climbed these very steps; He's walked this corridor.
He is our tender tutor sent here to be our guide; All wisdom opens up to us when He is by our side.
Earth's halls are not so dim when the Master lights the way; He reveals a world of wonder that brings joy throughout our stay.
Hand in hand He'll lead us to a life that never ends,To a brighter day in a world unseen, together eternal friends.
Greg Olsen

Sept. 8, 2015 Taking missionary work to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!!
So to start off .. DRUM ROLL .. GO COUGARS!!! I haven't seen the videos yet but I heard that they beat Nebraska with 1 second left on the clock with a Hail Mary!!! I was so pumped when I heard that in Ward Council Meeting on Sunday. If you watched it you should recall an interception by a guy with the last name of Hannemann. He was a missionary here in Carlsbad 6 months ago. He is representing our mission pretty well. Is BYU ranked now or what?
As far as our investigators go they are pretty unreliable. We literally broke into one of our investigators houses this week to get him to come to church. Gilberto….We went into his house and his door to his room was locked. So we started pounding on it for like 15 minutes. (by the way he gave us permission to wake him up if he wasn't up by 12:30) So after POUNDING on his door for that long he still didn't wake up! He lives in an apartment on the second floor. So we went outside and there is this skinny palm tree that goes right up next to his window. So I shimmied my way up about 20 ft and started banging on his window. That went on for about 5 minutes. So I took off his screen and opened his window and climbed in. And there he was dead asleep on his bed. So I waited for Elder Wight to come around in the apartment and into his room. We started shaking him. And it took him like seriously 2 minutes to come to consciousness. It was so frustrating. But hey! we got him to church! So that happened. And our other investigator Lili was sick on Sunday so she didn't come. Those are our two main people that we are working with. There are a couple more people but we didn't have any real good contact with them this week.
Well I have to get going now. So I will talk to you all next week.

Elder Miles

Aug. 31, 2015 I DO LOVE THIS PLACE....
This week flew by again. I am almost done with my first transfer, and that to me is crazy!
The weirdest things go on here in Vista. This week our Zone leaders found this huge bag of weed just sitting on the side of the road. We are so protected in Utah, I have already seen things that I would never imagine haha. (nothing bad) but just weird. But I do love this place. It already feels like home, and normal to wake up every day here. I think I am pretty much adjusted to the daily schedule so everything is normal. I still am getting used to the running every day part though. I dread it every night. Not fun.
The people here do get pretty hyped about football. There are NFL fans and college fans. Mostly college fans though because they know that the NFL is over rated haha. But you see the spirit for the teams here for sure. But everybody gets along no matter what team you like. Unlike those U of U fans back home. So I like that a lot. Surprisingly there are a lot of BYU fans here too! So that is really cool. You see a lot of flags on cars or stickers, people wearing shirts, etc. I like that.
We were supposed to have a baptism this upcoming Saturday but Gilberto didn't show up to church again and refuses to let us get a member to give him a ride. So that is very frustrating. More so disappointing. So we have to push that back another week .. again. Lili is doing great though. She is so close to getting completely off smoking. And we moved her date a day closer so she will be getting baptized on the 18th. And then there is a girl named Ashley that we picked up last Sunday that is going to get baptized as well. We just haven't been able to set a firm date yet. But that should be here in the next 2 or three weeks. The missionary work is on fire right now! Can't wait for all of these baptisms to follow through!
Well anyways I have to go now. So I will talk to you all next week!

Aug. 24, 2015 Another GREAT WEEK!!
This week was a great week! Yesterday at church we picked up 2 new investigators. And they are all way solid. Their names are Juan and Ashley. We apparently invited Juan to church earlier this week. Which is something we do a lot so we kind of just forgot about him. But then he showed up to church and surprised us. We didn't know who he was for the first 15 minutes we were talking to him. But then it clicked. And Ashley is a referral from one of her friends. She's talked to the missionaries, but has never invited them over to have a lesson. So we accepted and we are going to teach her on Wednesday.
Lili and Gilberto still have baptism dates. But Gilberto's date had to get pushed back to Sep. 5th because he wasn't coming to church. But he did this week so that's good! Lili has a date still for the 17th and she is way solid and that will most likely hold.
Earlier this week I somehow twisted my ankle and fell over. And a guy from like 150 yards away saw it and ran up to me and grabbed me and started screaming, "JESUS!! HEAL THIS LEG!!" He wouldn't let me get up until he had said it like 10 times. I didn't know what to do. So when he did let me get up, Elder Wight & I just started walking away and he did the same. But it was intense!
Do you get all of my pictures that I send? It is extremely hot here and yes there are a lot of fires. There was one just north of my area the other day that was pretty big, but I think they got it under control. The smoke doesn't stay around for very long because the ocean breeze blows it inland.
Mom - A lot of people have seen my blog for some reason haha. Did you post something on Carlsbad moms? Because I get teased about it haha. But its ok its just funny.
Anyways that's about it for this week. Talk to you all later.

Elder Miles

The Elders & Sisters
were able to attend the
Addiction Recovery 12-Step Program
meeting. These are held in several
LDS churches and buildings around
the world on a weekly basis.
President Boyd K. Packer of the Quorum of
the Twelve taught; "Addiction has the capacity
to disconnect the human will and nullify moral agency.
It can rob one of the power to decide."
The guide that is used in these meetings was written
with support from Church leaders and counseling
professionals by those who have suffered from
addiction and who have experienced
the miracle of recovery through the
Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Aug. 17, 2015 "Wow! That just makes me want to read that book!"...I love this:)
Hey everyone! How are you? Here are some updates on this past week...
Gilberto still wants to be baptized but he also has to be at church twice before hand. And he for some reason won't come. We haven't been able to get in contact with Sebrina so she is questionable. So keep them in your prayers.
This week was pretty normal. Talked to a lot of people, trying to pick up on some spanish because there are so many mexicans that move here to Vista and have been here for like 15 years, but don't know how to speak English. It is a little frustrating sometimes but it's ok.
Last night was way cool. We were out contacting and saw this girl on her porch. And she let us sit down and teach her about the Restoration. And the whole time she looked like she was just amazed at what we were saying. And when we finished she said, "Wow! That just makes me want to read that book!" So we gave her a couple verses for her to read in Moroni and we are going to meet back up with her tonight and she how she's doing. Her name is Julie, and she is 15. So we are going to have to hand her off to another set of missionaries because she isn't Young Single Adult age yet. But she accepted the invitation to be baptized on Sept. 5th. So that was great! So hopefully that happens.
Well nothing else really exciting happened this week.. so that's about it. Heather, stop breaking your ankles!! Jeez! Anyways I have to get going now. Talk to you next week!
Love always,
Elder Miles
Hey Mom, also can you send me some short sleeve shirts. Thanks! Love you. Oh & thanks for the money it was much needed

Elder Miles & Elder Wight
YSA Bar-B-Que
I received an email this past week & opened it up to see these 2 handsome Elders!! It's so fun to have the wonderful local families let us know our missionaries are being taken care of!! Especially in the FOOD dept!!:) Elder Miles mentioned in his last email that their Vista Young Single Adult Branch gets together every week for a BBQ!
Aug, 10, 2015 Sounds great!! (he thinks he needs more FOOD though:)
This week flew by!!! We had a ton of fun, and yes those pics that you saw were from a dinner and a BBQ that we had. We have BBQ's every Saturday in the YSA ward. And that's way awesome. We have two investigators that have dates set on the 22nd to be baptized! Their names are Gilberto and Sebrina. So yeah that's awesome. Seeing how the gospel, if taken seriously, can change people’s lives and can make them so much happier.
We went on a hike this morning and that was so nice and relaxing. Our Zone Leader fell in the river that we were next to, and none of us could stop laughing. He was so mad & scared that he was going to get in trouble because he got in the water. We saw a coyote as well. It was really small but all of the sisters in our district were arguing with the elders that it was a fox. And some of the missionaries were getting contentious. But the hike was way fun and nice to really take a while to appreciate the nature that we don't get to any other day of the week.
I left my camera at the apartment. So I can’t send any pictures this week. But thanks for sending those other pics. They were great and I couldn't stop smiling. Oh and I fed a llama this week. That was awesome!!! And turkeys!.
Anyways I gotta go now. Talk to you all next week and hopefully I'll have more to talk about
Love always Elder Miles
P.S. KEEP SENDING FOOD AND STUFF

Aug. 3, 2015 Week one here!
This first week was a ton of fun. Yeah I'm serving in a YSA ward in the Vista Stake and that's way nice!! Being able to relate to the people I'm around all the time. And we've had tons of activities so that's also way fun. My comp. Elder Wight is doing a really good job. I did almost get hit by a car the first night hahaha. Like literally 3 inches from getting clipped by a SUV. That was an adrenaline rush! But everything is going great. The only thing that sucks is running in the morning. Hahaha but it does wake me up and get my blood pumping. And we are in a car the whole time because we cover a whole stake. So that stinks too because "I want to ride my bicycle! I want to ride my bike!"
The work is hard here because everyone knows who we are and nobody wants anything to do with us most of the time. But we always seem to find the "elect" as President Kendrick says. And they always are interested. A lot of our appointments fall through which is also a downer. So we have only taught like 5 lessons. And one was a set up for a Bible bash. FUN!! Haha he is a Catholic bible class teacher and he kept bringing up all these scriptures from the bible and we always had a comeback and he ended up with nothing to say and had us leave. But we still tried our hardest to try not to bash back. We do have some solid potential investigators though which is way nice.
Every Sunday we go to Camp Pendelton and teach all of the military recruits there. And that was a way cool experience. Hearing of all of their stories is way cool. They're brutal though. But all of the guys up there are way cool. Send as much food as you want!!! Food is life.
Anyways I have to go now but everything is awesome. I'll have more "inspirational" stories next week most likely hahaha. And I'm going to try to send some pics.
Love always,
Elder Miles
