Lili's Baptism Day - 9/26/15

Elder Wight,  Lili,  Elder Miles

Sept. 28, 2015 Alma 32:26-33...I challenge you all to read that!

Lili was baptized on Saturday with her little sister Juli! That was probably one of the most spiritual experiences I have ever had. They both had the cheesiest grins the whole time and it was so cool to see. When we first met Lili she was pretty much, I guess you could say, Atheist. But we have been able to see the happiness and the blessings that come from living the gospel in another person. As she acted upon faith we were able to see the story that is told in Alma 32:26-33. And I challenge you all to read that.

Other than that this was pretty uneventful haha. We don't have any investigators anymore so we have just been contacting and stopping by members to get referrals. It was really hot though. So we stopped an Ice cream truck and got some sweets. The person in the picture is a recent convert named Robert. He is pretty cool.

I can't believe that my second transfer is almost over. And that I have been out for 73 days?? Time flies by when you are having fun I guess. Like really this is the best thing I have ever done. It is so much fun every day. We play this game when we are walking around. It is called rock soccer. You try to kick rocks between each others legs while we are walking. And who ever scores the most before we get back in the car wins haha. So that is always entertaining. And just talking to people and hearing their experiences is always pretty cool as well. There are a lot of weird people.

Well I have to head out now. Talk to you next week.

 Love always,

 Elder Miles

Gotta get their COOL on...

September 21, 2015 Sisters scheduled to be baptized!! So exciting!!

Hola familia y amigos!

I have been trying to remember some of my Spanish this week. There are a ton of Mexicans that live here that don't speak a lick of english, so I have learned about 5 phrases to find out if they are interested and where they live to send the missionaries. It is still a struggle sometimes, but that has been fun.

Our investigator Lili passed her interview and is getting baptized this Saturday by one of our recent converts. It is amazing to see how far she has come and the blessings that have come from her decision. She is getting baptized with her sister Juli who is 13 years old. How special would that be to be baptized on the same day as your sibling. Pretty darn special I'll tell ya.

Our other investigators Gilberto, Jonathan, and Alian are all doing pretty good as well. Alian and Jonathan have dates for the 3rd of October but that will hold only as long as they keep coming to church. They have told us the difference it makes in their week when they do come to church. Which is something that I wish I would have taken more seriously before I came out on my mission. Church is so, so important when it comes to learning and the growth of your testimony. Our Father in Heaven has set apart that day for us to worship him. And in return he has promised us so many blessings that we as human beings can't even comprehend. So I encourage everyone to go to church with the intent to learn. And you will be able to feel the spirit so much more and you will be able to put those things that you do learn into your trials throughout the week.

Tuesday was an awesome day! We got rain! And not just a little drizzle. It poured and poured and poured! So awesome! We were out walking around when it started and within 10 minutes there was so much water, when cars would drive by they would splash huge rooster tails on us. But we were just laughing and having fun. Unfortunately everyone disappeared into their homes.

Sorry I don't send long emails. I don't have a lot of time to be on the computers and I just don't like typing very much. So yeah. But I do have to go now. I will talk to you all next week!

Love always,

Elder Miles

You can't see it but the left side of the picture way out in the distance is the ocean."

We asked Elder Miles for more pictures....Ta Da!!

This....this is what we got:)

Sept. 14, 2015 Elder Miles is in the right place!! "I love the heat! It feels so good!!"...

Again .. Go Cougars! Haha... a member showed me the highlights to the game. Pretty sketchy at some points but they pulled it off. The pick 6 at the end was awesome.

This week was just another normal week. Nothing too exciting. None of our investigators went to church. And we didn't have our baptism yesterday. All of our investigators except for one are pretty unreliable. So Elder Wight and I get frustrated sometimes. We have canceled Gilberto for baptism until he shows us some motivation. And then there is a kid named Jonathan that is hard to read what is going on inside his head. He always has this blank stare and you have no idea what he is thinking. And when he does comment it's way off. So he is pretty difficult. But we have Lili that is way solid. We have had to move her date a couple times because of interview questions, but she has been trying her hardest to make those changes in her life. It is awesome that she see's the blessings that she is receiving from those changes, and that she is recognizing the promptings from the spirit. So that is pretty cool.

But yeah this week nothing really happened. A lot of our appointments fell through so we spent most of the times contacting. Plus it was pretty hot this week. On Tuesday it was 93 degrees at 10:30 in the morning. With 78% humidity. So we were sweating quite a bit. But I love the heat it feels so good. Elder Wight likes the cold so when we get back in the car he turns on the A/C then I get freezing. So I dont like that we have a car. But that is about it for this week. Sorry not much happened but hopefully this next week will be better! Cant wait to see!! Talk to you later.

 Love always,

 Elder Miles

Gotta get a photo by the tagged "ART"...

THE MASTERS TOUCH

Discouraged and alone, we're not easily consoled; The school of life gets difficult, just as we were told.

Doubt shrinks us at the threshold of the darkened way; Despair creeps in upon us and is had to keep at bay.

Light now dims as the shadows grow in length; Heaviness engulfs us; we stop to pray for strength.

It seems we're going nowhere; life's a dead-end street; Relief is what we plead for when it all feels like defeat!

The fun has disappeared, dropping out is on our mind; The test has overwhelmed us, the answers hard to find.

In these trying moments, we must stop and be so still, So we can feel His promptings and know that they are real.

Only then can we be ready to sense the Master's touch, To know He's always there and that He loves us very much!

He knows just how we feel - He's been this way before; He's also climbed these very steps; He's walked this corridor.

He is our tender tutor sent here to be our guide; All wisdom opens up to us when He is by our side.

Earth's halls are not so dim when the Master lights the way; He reveals a world of wonder that brings joy throughout our stay.

Hand in hand He'll lead us to a life that never ends,To a brighter day in a world unseen, together eternal friends.

Sept. 8, 2015 Taking missionary work to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!!

So to start off .. DRUM ROLL .. GO COUGARS!!! I haven't seen the videos yet but I heard that they beat Nebraska with 1 second left on the clock with a Hail Mary!!! I was so pumped when I heard that in Ward Council Meeting on Sunday. If you watched it you should recall an interception by a guy with the last name of Hannemann. He was a missionary here in Carlsbad 6 months ago. He is representing our mission pretty well. Is BYU ranked now or what?

As far as our investigators go they are pretty unreliable. We literally broke into one of our investigators houses this week to get him to come to church. Gilberto….We went into his house and his door to his room was locked. So we started pounding on it for like 15 minutes. (by the way he gave us permission to wake him up if he wasn't up by 12:30) So after POUNDING on his door for that long he still didn't wake up! He lives in an apartment on the second floor. So we went outside and there is this skinny palm tree that goes right up next to his window. So I shimmied my way up about 20 ft and started banging on his window. That went on for about 5 minutes. So I took off his screen and opened his window and climbed in. And there he was dead asleep on his bed. So I waited for Elder Wight to come around in the apartment and into his room. We started shaking him. And it took him like seriously 2 minutes to come to consciousness. It was so frustrating. But hey! we got him to church! So that happened. And our other investigator Lili was sick on Sunday so she didn't come. Those are our two main people that we are working with. There are a couple more people but we didn't have any real good contact with them this week.

Well I have to get going now. So I will talk to you all next week.

 Love Always,

 Elder Miles

Aug. 31, 2015 I DO LOVE THIS PLACE....

This week flew by again. I am almost done with my first transfer, and that to me is crazy!

The weirdest things go on here in Vista. This week our Zone leaders found this huge bag of weed just sitting on the side of the road. We are so protected in Utah, I have already seen things that I would never imagine haha. (nothing bad) but just weird. But I do love this place. It already feels like home, and normal to wake up every day here. I think I am pretty much adjusted to the daily schedule so everything is normal. I still am getting used to the running every day part though. I dread it every night. Not fun.

The people here do get pretty hyped about football. There are NFL fans and college fans. Mostly college fans though because they know that the NFL is over rated haha. But you see the spirit for the teams here for sure. But everybody gets along no matter what team you like. Unlike those U of U fans back home. So I like that a lot. Surprisingly there are a lot of BYU fans here too! So that is really cool. You see a lot of flags on cars or stickers, people wearing shirts, etc. I like that.

We were supposed to have a baptism this upcoming Saturday but Gilberto didn't show up to church again and refuses to let us get a member to give him a ride. So that is very frustrating. More so disappointing. So we have to push that back another week .. again. Lili is doing great though. She is so close to getting completely off smoking. And we moved her date a day closer so she will be getting baptized on the 18th. And then there is a girl named Ashley that we picked up last Sunday that is going to get baptized as well. We just haven't been able to set a firm date yet. But that should be here in the next 2 or three weeks. The missionary work is on fire right now! Can't wait for all of these baptisms to follow through!

Well anyways I have to go now. So I will talk to you all next week!

Love always,
Elder Miles
