July 25, 2016 Thanks for the LOVE SUPPORT & LETTERS!!:)

Happy Pioneer Day!!

Well it has been another fantastic week workin' in the California heat. We were able to teach a couple lessons this week. So the guy that came to church is super cool. His name is Toby. He is super elect. We showed up to his place and he told us that he already wanted to be baptized. He had searched mormon.org and lds.org and just knew that it was true. So we taught him the restoration and set him on date for baptism. Now the unfortunate part was that when we found his address, he lives outside of our area. So we passed him off to the Vista 3rd ward missionaries. Then we had another lesson with a guy named Fazard. He had been taught before by missionaries but they never updated his teaching record. So we didn't know what he had been taught or what his background was. So we show up, he's super nice. We sit down and ask if we can start with a prayer and he says, "no." Then goes on to say how he is atheist and doesn't want to join or anything, just wants to know our history and beliefs. So we did teach him a little bit but it went nowhere. But hey at least we are teaching some lessons! We are super stoked about that!

We also have been working with our members a lot to get missionary work going. We currently have 3 families that are sharing the gospel with their friends and see some improvement. It's awesome to see how much happiness sharing the gospel does bring to those that do it. I will update you more next week on how things are going with that.

Something I want to invite you all to keep in mind this week: Elder Walkenfuss, a Spanish speaking missionary in our mission, his mom passed away Thursday morning completely unexpected due to a blood clot. His father also passed away a few years ago. I don't know all of the details, whether or not he has grandparents, but please just keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. I'm not exactly sure if he's going home or not.

I received all of the letters from the Miles fam last p-day in my year mark package. Thanks to you all for the love and support. It really means a lot, and really gives a boost in energy mentally and physically. So thank you!

Well I have to get running now but I will talk to you all next week!

Love,
Elder Miles

July 18, 2016 1 YEAR!!

Well it has definately been a good ride here in Carlsbad, California this year. I've had nothing but GOOD experiences. I could probably go through all of my experiences and pick out all of the "bad" ones. But you can't really call them bad. Because every single thing that has happened on my mission has been a learning experience. And that is a GOOD thing. After all it is the reason why we are here. I feel I have grown more this year than my whole life combined. I've grown Spiritually, Mentally, Physically and probably in a lot more ways that I can't see. And I know that very little if none of that would have happened if I didn't go on a mission.

Something that I have seen is there is no better way to learn than by applying gospel principles and Christlike attributes. And I know that everything that I have grown in has been a blessing because I strive to do what the Lord has asked. D&C 130:21 "And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon that which it is predicated." And I don't want to sound self-righteous or prideful, but I have obeyed the commandments that God has given me. And I have seen how it has blessed my life. I have given up a lot, but have received more.

Mark 10:28-30 "28. Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's. 30. But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life."
I have seen this. I know that you don't have to be a set apart full time missionary to see this. So what I would like to challenge you to do is to find something that you can change. Something hard. Something that will stretch you. And do it, and I can promise that if you are sincere, God will bless you. Odds are you already know what needs to change.

This week we set up lessons with former investigators and we found a new potential. We have a lesson with him tomorrow. He just showed up at church and told us he wants to have a better relationship with Christ! He is super cool. So we will see how this one goes.

Well I gotta get running but I hope you all have a good week!

Love,
Elder Miles

July 15, 2016 YEAR MARK....WHHAAATT??!!!!๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I cannot believe this boy of ours was dropped off "CURB-SIDE" 1 year ago today! I remember the night before, it was late once we had everything ready to go, but still Nathan, Ethan & I settled in to watch the movie "The Best Two Years" (a request of Elder Miles๐Ÿ˜Š) We ended up on Nathan's & my bed to watch it & all 3 of us fell asleep...so I got to snuggle my "baby boy" the night before he left๐Ÿ’ž Elder Miles would be mortified if he knew I told anyone that let alone post it on his blog๐Ÿ˜ฎ That's my calling in life....to nuture my children & embarrass the heck out of them at the same time!!๐Ÿ˜„ I hope I can grow & learn this next year like our missionary has done this last year. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Elder Miles' favorite scripture)

July 11, 2016 YEAR MARK this week for Elder Miles!!๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜„

Well this week has been just another fantastic week.  We worked super hard because we are sick of not having any investigators.  We didn't pick any up, but we did however find a couple potentials.  One of them seems super solid.  He has family that are members and knows a lot about the church.  We don't think that he understood that we wanted to teach him haha, but his family that are members are coming down to visit and he said we can come by and invite them to church.  So we are going to get in a lesson then.

We also caught a super cool lizard this week.  It's called an Alligator lizard.  It was right outside our apartment so we took it inside for a couple minutes.  It's like 9 inches long and eats just about everything that moves haha.

I'll also hit my HUMP DAY this week!!! Dang time flies by when you're having fun.  I've definitely had fun out here in California!

Well we are gonna go play basketball now but I will talk to you all next week!

Love,
Elder Miles

July 5, 2016 Looking forward to a new transfer!

Hello!

Happy 4th of July!

Well we still haven't been able to meet with any investigators yet.  We were able to make contact with some of the Less-Active members this week.  And set up some lessons.  2 canceled last night but we set them up again for later this week.  So hopefully we will be able to get in with them.

As some of you know my new companion is Elder Woolsey.  He's from Benjamin/Spanish Fork, Utah.  I served around him when I was in Murrieta for 2 transfers and he is a pretty swell guy.  He is also a Bull Rider and competed in Kamas one time.  But we are looking forward for this transfer.

President Thomas is pretty cool.  It's going to be a big change from President Kendrick but he is very happy and laughs a lot and likes joking around.  Sister Thomas was maybe just a little nervous when she spoke but she will probably loosen up.

Other than that nothin' else is goin' on.  But we are doing good here.  Hope you all have a good week.

Love,
Elder Miles
